Since 1 January 2026 every foreign tourist entering Georgia needs health and accident insurance of at least GEL 30,000 for the whole stay, under Government Resolution No. 602. It applies to every nationality, and a day trip to Batumi does not change it: the rule works on entry, not on how long you stay.

Sarp–Sarpi is the busiest crossing on the Black Sea coast, about 20 km from Batumi. Georgian passport control may ask to see your travel health insurance. Keep the PDF where it opens without mobile internet.
What the policy must show
- It covers Georgia ("worldwide" plans do; regional plans may not).
- It covers every day you are in Georgia.
- The insured sum is at least GEL 30,000, or the equivalent in another currency.
- The document is in English or Georgian. A Turkish-only certificate does not meet the rule.
Travelling on a tour
Every traveller needs their own cover. Ask the agency whether insurance is included and whether the certificate is in English; if not, buy it yourself before you leave.
