What APPA actually is

It's third-party liability, not comprehensive cover

APPA pays for damage or injury you cause to other people — their car, their property, their health — up to the statutory limits below. It does not repair your own vehicle; if you want that covered too, arrange separate cover before you travel.

Priced by duration, not your driving history

Unlike UK insurance, the price isn't affected by your No Claims Discount, age, or claims record. Our price is a flat rate based only on the vehicle type and how many days of cover you choose.

The policy names your vehicle and driver

When you buy it, you enter the car's registration number and VIN, plus the driver's licence details exactly as they appear on the documents — that's what gets checked at the border or in the event of an accident.

Exactly what APPA covers — and what it doesn’t

  1. 1

Up to 30 000 GEL per injured third party for health or life-threatening injury (15 000 GEL for a lesser health injury), capped at 300 000 GEL total for one insured event.

  2. 2

Up to 25 000 GEL per affected third party for property damage — their car, a wall, a fence — capped at 50 000 GEL total for one insured event.

  3. 3

It does not cover damage to your own vehicle, your own medical treatment, or your belongings. Travel medical insurance is a separate, legally required policy since January 2026; cover for your own vehicle is optional and bought separately if you want it.

  4. 4

Cover is valid across the whole of Georgia for the exact duration you select — it does not pause or extend automatically once it starts.

Three durations, priced for how you’re actually travelling

15 days — from $20.00

  • About $1.33 a day — the cheapest way to cover a short trip or a transit stop
  • Best if you're just passing through Georgia on a longer overland route
  • Buy again from inside Georgia in the same three minutes if your trip runs long

1 month — from $30.00

  • Covers a typical UK-to-Georgia round trip with time to actually explore
  • Better value than buying two 15-day policies back to back
  • The most commonly bought duration for foreign-plated vehicles

1 year — from $150.00

  • About $0.41 a day — the cheapest option if you're overlanding long-term or re-entering more than twice a year
  • One policy covers every crossing for 12 months, no repurchasing
  • Recommended for campervan and motorhome trips using Georgia as a repeated waypoint

Prices shown are for a standard passenger car. Motorcycles, buses, trucks, trailers, and special vehicles are priced individually in the same online form.

How buying it works

01

Enter your vehicle details

Registration number, VIN or frame number, manufacturer and model, and vehicle type (car, motorcycle, bus, truck, trailer, or special) — this also determines the price for non-standard vehicles.

02

Enter driver and policyholder details

Name, licence or passport ID, and citizenship, exactly as they appear on the documents you’ll be carrying — this is what’s checked at the border.

03

Pay securely online

Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay all work through the checkout, charged in GBP or your card’s home currency at your bank’s exchange rate.

04

Receive your PDF policy by email

Usually within minutes — ready to show digitally at the Sarpi crossing or to Georgian police, no printout required.

If you have an accident

Stay at the scene, call 112 (the Georgian emergency line) and the official compulsory-insurance hotline +995 32 2 30 11 11 immediately, and wait for an authorised officer unless someone needs urgent medical care. Your APPA policy details (vehicle registration and policy number) will be needed at this point, so keep the confirmation email accessible on your phone throughout the trip.

Sources and accuracy

Coverage limits on this page are the limits set in Georgian law. Prices are Georgian APPA's own selling prices, which include our service, and are not the statutory premium. Compulsory cover is arranged through Georgia's official compulsory insurance system and participating insurers. Insurance terms can be updated by the issuing insurer — always confirm current figures at checkout before purchase. For visa and entry rules, see the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office's travel advice for Georgia (gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/georgia). Our editorial process and primary legal references are listed on the Editorial Policy and Official Sources pages. Last reviewed: August 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Does APPA cover damage to my own car?

No — it’s third-party liability only, covering damage and injury you cause to other people. Repairs to your own vehicle need separate cover, arranged before you travel if you want it.

What’s the excess or deductible?

There isn't a separate excess the way UK car insurance works — APPA is a fixed-limit compulsory policy at the coverage figures above, with no additional deductible on top.

Can I extend my policy after I’ve already arrived in Georgia?

Yes — buy a new policy for the same vehicle at any time online, including from inside Georgia, choosing a start date that follows straight on from your current cover.

What if my entry into Georgia is delayed and my policy start date passes?

Set your start date to your planned entry day with a small buffer. If you’re delayed further, buy a fresh policy with a new start date before you actually cross rather than arrive with one that’s already expired.

Do I need APPA if I’m only transiting through Georgia for a few hours?

Yes — the requirement applies to any foreign-plated vehicle on Georgian roads regardless of trip length. The 15-day policy is the practical choice for a short transit.

Is a UK No Claims Discount recognised?

No. Georgian compulsory insurance pricing isn't linked to driving history or NCD from any country — it's a flat rate set only by vehicle type and duration.

Can I insure a motorcycle, campervan, or trailer separately from a car?

Yes — vehicle type is selected during the online purchase (car, motorcycle, bus, truck, trailer, or special), and each type is priced individually in the same form.

Is the policy issued in my name or the vehicle’s?

Both — the policy records the vehicle’s registration and VIN alongside the named driver and policyholder’s details, since these are checked together at the border or after an accident.

What documents do I need to buy it?

The car's registration document (a V5C for UK vehicles) for the registration number and VIN, and the driver's passport or driving licence details. The whole form takes about three minutes.

Can I get the policy resent if I lose the email?

Yes — contact support with your order number or the email you used, and the PDF can be resent, or you can look up the order on the tracking page at any time.

Do I need to compare insurers, or is there one fixed price?

The compulsory cover follows Georgia's official compulsory insurance system wherever you buy it. What differs between sellers is the price and the service around it. Georgian APPA's price is shown in full at checkout before you pay.

What if I sell the car or my trip ends early — can I get a refund?

Contact support before or shortly after your policy’s start date if your plans change. Refund eligibility for unused time depends on the issuing insurer’s terms.
