Can I buy travel insurance for Georgia on the day I travel?

Yes. The policy must be valid when you enter Georgia, not when you book the trip, and electronic policies are accepted under Resolution No. 602. Through Georgian APPA the certificate is issued by Unison Insurance and emailed right after payment, so you can buy it at the airport, in the queue at a land border or the evening before and show the PDF on your phone. Choose a start date no later than your arrival day and an end date no earlier than your departure; the policy must cover every day of the stay.

What you need to have ready

  • Each traveller's passport: name in Latin letters as printed, document number, date of birth, citizenship.
  • Your travel dates: the day you enter Georgia and the day you leave. If you are not sure of the departure, insure a few extra days — the policy must cover the whole stay.
  • An email address you can open on your phone, and a bank card. Payment is by card through Stripe.

Timing that works and timing that does not

  • At the airport before departure: works. Buy before check-in, because airlines may ask for the certificate at the desk.
  • In the car before the Georgian border: works, if you have mobile data. Buy on the home side of the crossing, where your SIM still has coverage.
  • After passport control: too late for the entry check. You may still be asked for cover during your stay, and you need it if you fall ill, but the policy will not help at the border you have already crossed.
  • Backdating: not possible. A policy starts on the start date you choose, at the earliest the day of purchase.

Driving in? Both policies at once

If you arrive in a foreign-registered car, the same last-minute logic applies to the compulsory Georgian car insurance, and both can be bought in one order through Georgian APPA. The car policy is registered against the plate electronically, so border officers and traffic police can see it without a printout.

How fast does the certificate arrive?

It is issued and emailed right after payment is confirmed — normally within minutes. Check the spam folder if it is not in the inbox, and contact support on WhatsApp or Telegram if it has not arrived.

Can the policy start today?

Yes. Choose today as the start date and it is valid from the moment it is issued. It cannot start on a date that has already passed.

Do I need to print the certificate?

No. Resolution No. 602 accepts electronic policies. Save the PDF to your phone so it opens without a connection.

What is the shortest policy I can buy?

Three days. The longest is 180 days. For a day trip, insure three days from your arrival date.

What does a last-minute policy cost?

The same as one bought in advance: from $3.62 per traveller per day, depending on age and the number of days. There is no surcharge for buying on the day.
