From Armenia

Do travellers from Armenia need travel insurance to enter Georgia?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026 every tourist entering Georgia needs health and accident insurance of at least GEL 30,000 for the whole stay, under Resolution No. 602 — this applies to citizens of Armenia and to foreigners travelling on from Armenia alike. A policy from an Armenian insurer is accepted if it covers Georgia, every day of the trip and the full sum, and the certificate is in English or Georgian. A Georgian policy through Georgian APPA is issued by Unison Insurance in English, can be paid in drams, and is emailed within minutes.

What the rule means for travellers from Armenia

  • Every traveller needs cover, children included: health and accident insurance for Georgia, every day of the stay, at least GEL 30,000.
  • The certificate must be in English or Georgian. A certificate in Armenian or Russian only does not meet the rule.
  • Border guards may check the policy on arrival. Keep the PDF where it opens without mobile internet.

Crossing by road

Bagratashen – Sadakhlo, Bavra – Ninotsminda and Gogavan – Guguti are the international road crossings between Armenia and Georgia; check that the one you plan to use is open before you set off. A car on Armenian plates also needs Georgian car insurance: Armenian compulsory insurance is valid only in Armenia, and Georgia is not part of the Green Card system.

Buying a Georgian policy

Georgian APPA arranges a Unison Insurance travel medical certificate for your exact dates — 3 to 180 days — for every traveller in one order. Prices are shown in drams or dollars, the certificate states the GEL 30,000 insured sum and arrives by email within minutes. Travel and car insurance can be paid together.
